Welcome to JointRadio (very Beta)
A mashup of bookmarks, mp3 files, rss, a flashplayer.
Don't you always get the best music recommendations from your friends? How would you like to create a radio station where you select the DJs?
This site is a distributed playlist aggregator. It takes RSS bookmark feeds from a social bookmarking service (del.icio.us currently tested) and creates a playlist (the excellent XSPF, but that's not important here). Further, members can aggregate other user's playlists into a master playlist or use the whole site playlist.
- Upload some mp3 files somewhere, I signed up for Media Max which allows 25 gigs of storage. In mediamax, be sure to move your files to the 'hosted' folder.
- In Del.icio.us, tag mp3 files with a certain tag, like 'music' or 'mp3'. Be sure that the Title is legible - it will appear in the player -that is remove any %20% gunk. I highyly recommend the del.icio.us Firefox Extension which allows you to right-click on an MP3 file and tag it. It looks like the IE toolbar can do it too, but I would have no idea about that.
- In the Bookmarks folder, add your RSS feed from del.icio.us. It will look like mine: http://del.icio.us/rss/nowen/music. Note the rss folder and that my tag is 'music'. Make sure to set the update for over 30 minutes or they think it's a DOS attack.
Music Player Sidebar
Firefox and Opera users can add the
Joint Radio Sidebar Player and listen while browsing the web.
Update: I have found an online storage service that includes RSS Feeds: Box.net - Pricing starts at i$2.99/mo for 1GB of storage.
